Course Description

Prerequisite to Attend:  No continuous improvement or quality background/experience is required.

While the concepts and philosophies of Lean are universal, many of the Lean tools and methods developed for manufacturing and process industries do not readily apply in the public services environment. This five-day accelerated training program provides your organization with a cost-effective, high impact solution for their training needs, which will allow you to leverage the very best that Lean has to offer, thereby dramatically improving customer satisfaction and stakeholder value.

This unique program will provide participants with the foundation for Lean project success, including statistical and analytical tools, as well as change management, leadership, and project management skills. All training is derived from a common curriculum and as such, Green Belts will be well-equipped to assume proactive support roles for both Champions and Black Belts, as well as lead Lean process improvement projects of their own.

Employing an Adult Learning Model, participants can apply newly-acquired Lean tools and methods to actual process improvement projects over the course of training, enabling immediate benefit from your Lean training investment.

This Lean Green Belt curriculum consists of five consecutive days of training led by a Lean Sensei / Master Black Belt. At the end of each session of training, participants will develop an action plan for their projects, which will be reviewed by their Master Black Belt instructor. If necessary, additional project coaching and/or certification* after the completion of the program can be arranged.

As a Lean Green Belt practitioner participants will be able to;

  • Apply the 5 principles of Lean and define “customer value-added” in Lean terms
  • Identify, and assist team members in identifying the 8 sources of waste
  • Facilitate the construction of a current and future state Value Stream Map (VSM)
  • Explain the difference between “Push” versus “Pull” systems and the concept of “Flow”
  • Understand how to apply workplace organization, including 5S & Visual Management
  • Successfully facilitate a Kaizen (rapid improvement) Event
  • Help organizations apply Lean concepts in Workplace Design and Layout
  • Explain the importance of Standard Work in a Lean workplace
  • Apply Error Proofing (aka Mistake-Proofing or Poka Yoke)
  • Describe the purpose of Rapid Changeover Reduction
  • Explain the importance of Total Productive Maintenance
  • Define, plan and lead Lean projects
